AOL's Miller: Internet Is the New TV

AOL chief Jonathan Miller yesterday told a trade show in France that Internet video will soon replace the TV, or words to that effect. Miller noted that thousands of surfers 'clicked in' to watch AOL's live online broadcast of the 2005 Live 8 Concert.

However, the Live 8 concert was a special event. It doesn't mean that those people will come back the next day to watch an episode of Two and a Half Men (or some other run of the mill show) at Yahoo.com.

If Miller had said that Internet video -- when easily available on the TV itself -- was the future, I would have agreed with him. But only a small number of people will regularly watch video on their personal computers and desktops.

But, of course, Miller can't say that because he's the head of an online service for PC users.
