Barron's: TiVo Could Be Acquisition Target?

I just did a Google search for "TiVo+acquisition" and came up with 701,000 hits. I don't think "Paris Hilton" would get that much coverage.

Since TiVo's launch in 1997, rumors have circulated that it will be purchased by a larger outfit. As the DVR service has struggled over the last few years, the rumors have grown in volume. (In fact, I have succumbed a number of times myself, with my most recent prediction that TiVo will be purchased this year by either Yahoo or Google.)

However, here in the spring of 2006, TiVo is still an independent company, although one with an uncertain future. Which is why the respected publication Barron's is now joining the "TiVo May Be Bought" bandwagon with a new article detailing the reasons why.

Update: I should note that although the Barron's article says TiVo could be a takeover candidate, the overall tone of the piece is downbeat on the company's future. In fact, it suggests that TiVo shareholders might consider dumping some stock to take advantage of the company's recent upswing. So, I don't want to leave the impression that Barron's believes that TiVo would be a wise acquisition.
