Online TV Unlikely to Boost PC Sales

With the broadcast networks recently adding several of their primetime shows online, you would think that sales of new high-end PCs and laptops would soon jump. Most older models do not have the capacity to easily download and watch Net-based video. Perhaps consumers will trade in their current models for new Media Center PCs which are designed specifically for digital media such as Internet video.
However, MarketWatch.com reports that industry analysts believe that online video will have little impact on PC sales.
I'm not surprised, of course, because I believe that watching video on the PC will fail to generate much interest (outside of the media, of course, which tends to overestimate its impact.) With starting prices at $1,500, the Media Center PC will struggle to move past the early adopter crowd.
