HD Observer: Will HDTV Save EchoStar?

EchoStar's Dish Network now has 30 national High-Definition TV channels, more than any other TV provider.
And it might need every one of them to keep its subscription base from falling like a rock due to two recent court rulings regarding DVRs and network signals.

The interesting twist here: Will the court rulings, etc. force EchoStar to seek a merger with DIRECTV?
Looks bad for EchoStar and good for DIRECTV. They will pick up some subs from Echo.
well, lets see directv get some national channels.
it is getting depressing being a DTV customer.
i want my hdtv!!! more nationals like what dish has.
No doubt. Hard to understand what DIRECTV is waiting for.
True Echo* has 30 HD channels, but they are at reduced bandwidth and reduced bitrate. D* for there lack of bandwidth is broadcasting the current line up at as high a possible resolution.
Be patient. The two new sats will give D* the needed bandwidth. One or two more nats may sneak in this next month!
Yes, yes, yes, DIRECTV will add all these HD nets, but when, when, when?
Well...
...excuse me. Bad eyes, thus I may not seem totally responsive to this thread. Never the less, please let me rant on about the present government and courts. I hope that you all are aware that every Bush admin regulation, court decision, administrative ruling has been AGAINST US, US being the largest contributor to the tax base of america. We are the middle to upper middle class. We sit outside of or on the fringes of broadcasts, HD or otherwise.
Those of us so situated rarely receive a good broadcast signal in SD or HD. Our communities are neglected in practically all news coverage and weather service. Despite this, local stations have constiently and steadfastly REFUSED to grant waivers to allow distand network feeds, even when we choose to pay their damn extortion fees to receive local broadcasts.
Hell, our local stations (local? try conglomerate or foriegn)) are actually having their cake and eating it, too! Such has been our plight. Our government is truly robbing the middle class and paying the rich, plus throwing a few crumbs to the poor.
Vote: Lou Dobbs for president. Vote: Lieberman and other Indies = neither the R or D parties or for US.
