CSI: NY: Best Show In HDTV?
Gary Sinese and Melina Kanakaredes of CSI: NYI have been watching HDTV since 1999 and have seen some great looking HD shows on broadcast TV in that time. However, in the past year or so, I have been loving what I have been seeing and hearing on CSI-NY. I enjoy all of the CSI shows. CSI was a stunner since its debut on CBS in HD and was a great show to show off what HD is all about to non sports fans.
However, CSI and CSI Miami have very stylized looks. CSI Miami has a very unnatural looking color scheme with an overall orange look. CSI always looked a tad too green. Both are very effective in their own way, however, as they fit the mood of their locations. CSI has also been a little on the dark side, albeit with nice shadow detail. Sometimes I wish they would either turn on the lights or open the shades when they enter a crime screen. They may be able to find more evidence that way then pointing those tiny flashlights everywhere. But I digress....
However, in the past two years, CSI-NY (Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS) has dropped the cold blue color scheme that it had at its inception and now has the most natural and pleasing look of the three CSI shows. In fact, it is my opinion that CSI-NY is the best looking broadcast HD show on the airwaves, The picture is crystal clear with excellent color and detail. The colors are rendered very naturally and not overblown or over saturated. One can easily see the pores on the actors' faces and all of the fine detail in their clothing. Black levels are solid rendering a nice three dimensional image.
As impressive is the audio with clear, smooth sounding dialogue and effective use of the surrounds for fine details since as the clinking of instruments and the sounds of passing footsteps in the autopsy room. Music also sounds great on this show with great bass giving my sub a real workout. The show has also been helped by some excellent writing and fine acting by the entire cast. It has become my favorite CSI show.
If you haven’t seen it or didn’t like it during its first two seasons, check it out now. As always, let me know what you think.

I went down the guide on direct-tv and noticed CSI's new shows are there, but, what happened to Law and Order. SVU and Criminal Intent are still listed, but, not just plain Law & Order.
I believe I read somewhere that plain, old Law & Order returns on Sunday nights after NBC's football coverage ends.

Then you must have never seen "Mad Men" in HD (and VOD) on AMC. Stunningly beautiful HD, surpassing any filmed show I've seen.
I wouldn't know how CSI-NY looks. I'm on Time Warner cable STNY, and both the CBS, and FOX affilliates are not carried in HD even though they broadcast HD OTA. Can't receive either OTA due to distance. TWC sucks.
i would concur that CSI:NY has been the best overall HD production on TV for the past 2 seasons. from end to end, the production is top notch, transfer fabulous, and on the right cbs, every little bit comes through, with an aggressive audio mix to boot.
of other mentiones, i would put Cold Case in the honorable mention category. also way back when, 'Kevin Hill' on UPN was very impressive, the first to have that shot to HD gloss yet still have a film feel.
you do have to remember that various program material sometimes can't be compared, like the difference between live video or film transfers.
and if your lucky enough to see SkyHD in the UK markets, Lost in 1080p is remarkable; makes ABC's version look like SD. hopefully one day Fox and ABC will get off their cheap buts and give us the PQ available in those transfers.
