That's according to Home Media Magazine.
The two High-Definition discs were both released by Warner Bros. on July 31. But HD DVD supporters (including Microsoft) have aggressively promoted the interactive features on the HD DVD edition such as picture-in-picture and on-screen strategy games. (The features are not available on the Blu-ray disc.)
The 2-1 edge in sales for the Blu-ray edition of 300 is another blow to the HD DVD category, which is led by Toshiba.
Over the last several months, Blu-ray titles have outsold HD DVD discs by roughly 2-1, thanks in large part to the Sony PlayStation 3, which has a Blu-ray player inside. In addition, Sony, the chief backer of Blu-ray, has secured favorable retail partnerships with Blockbuster and Target to carry Blu-ray discs.
Although more standalone HD DVD players have been sold than Blu-ray players, PS3 gives Blu-ray a large lead in home penetration, which accounts for the lead in disc sales.
300, which made more than $200 million at the box office, recounts the ancient clash between 300 Spartans and the Persian Army.
