New technology is on display
near tech conference in Holland.

Washington, D.C. (September 2, 2006) --
Like your High-Definition TV?
Well, what if the high-def images were in 3D?
That out of this world scenario
is actually now on display -- albeit out of this country.
Broadcasting and Cable magazine reports that the Holland
Casino in Breda, about 60 miles from next week's IBC tech
conference in Amsterdam, has a 42-inch 3D HDTV on display.
The set, which was developed by Philips, is entertaining guests
(presumably a few conference attendees) with 3D images of gaming
action.

Philips' 3D TV on display.
Unlike most 3D displays, the 'WOWvx' TV does not require glasses
to see the special 3D effects. The TV uses advanced
signal-processing and a special lens technology.
Philips has said that it plans to launch a consumer 3D TV in a
few years. B&C notes that the company showcased the 3D
technology last month in a demonstration in New York. Philips
said then that it's talking with programmers about producing
content in the 3D HD format.
But B&C's reporter says extended viewing of the 3D TV can
nearly make one queasy.
"Golf balls and butterflies jump off the screen," the article
states.
However, a Philips spokesman says the set could be adjusted to
make it more suitable for viewing in a living room.
