Washington, D.C.
(April 19, 2007) -- KFSN, the ABC
affiliate in Fresno, California, will begin broadcasting the
local news in High-Definition on Monday.
That's according to an article in today's Fresno Bee.
The newspaper reports that KFSN, the top-rated newscast in the area, has built a new $250,000 set for the big switch.
The first high-def newscast will be the station's 5 p.m. news.
"We wanted to make the change because you don't want to start looking old. We designed the new set with HD in mind because we knew we were going to make the switch," station director Tracey Watkowski told the Bee.

The newspaper says the new set features wood tones and light blues, with a large photo of the Fresno skyline positioned behind the anchor desk.
KFSN anchors also had to re-learn how to do their makeup prior to going on the air because high-def can magnify every detail. A makeup consultant told staffers that less makeup is better than more.
Jeff Aiello, the station's creative director, told the newspaper that the newscast's field reports will not be in high-def. That will happen later, he said. But he promised that the HD studio segments will open eyes on Monday.
"The difference between HD and standard is amazing," he said.
There are now approximately 40 local stations broadcasting the news in HD.
