Washington, D.C. (October 31,
2011) --
DIRECTV and Fox have announced that they have reached an
agreement allowing the satcaster to continue carrying FX, the
Fox Movie Channel and roughly two dozen other Fox-owned cable
networks.
In addition, the two companies say the new agreement covers Fox
broadcasting, the Fox local stations, Fox News Channel and Fox
Business Network.
Fox and DIRECTV made the agreement just hours before a midnight
deadline that could have forced the satcaster to remove the Fox
cable networks. The new agreement also ends a very public and
nasty fight between the two companies.
"We
both know the past ten days have been challenging, but we’re
pleased that both sides could eventually come together to ensure
our viewers continue to enjoy Fox programming," said a statement
released tonight by DIRECTV and Fox.
The new agreement also covers Fox's local stations and the two
Fox news channels. DIRECTV's agreement with the Fox-owned local
stations and the news channels was scheduled to expire in two
months.
The statement released tonight does not comment on the terms of
the agreement. DIRECTV had said Fox was requesting a 40 percent
increase to carry its channels; Fox denied that.
