AMC: Dish Subs May Miss Mad Men Finale
By Swanni
Washington, D.C.
(June 8, 2012)
-- AMC appears to be getting extra mad over its programming
dispute with satcaster Dish Network. The channel has enlisted
Mad Men icon Don Draper for an anti-Dish ad which suggests
(apparently falsely) that Dish subscribers may not be able to
see this Sunday's season finale of the award-winning drama.
The two companies are engaged in a dispute over a new
programming contract and Dish is threatening to remove AMC and
two sister networks, IFC and WE TV, at the end of the month
unless AMC softens its demands.
In an ad published today in The Wall Street Journal, AMC uses a
picture of Draper (played by Jon Hamm) and the caption: "You
should be getting MAD! Dish Network is dropping AMC. Dish
subscribers may miss the highly-anticipated finale of the
Emmy-award winning series Mad Men. Tell Dish you're really mad!"
The problem with the ad is that Dish says it won't drop AMC
until the end of the month and the season finale of Mad Men runs
this Sunday, June 10.
Dish has not issued a response to the ad as of 8:40 a.m. ET
today.
Last Sunday,
Dish moved AMC to a
different channel without telling its viewers after AMC started
running a commercial saying Dish subscribers could lose AMC.
