Amazon Prime: How Many Titles Does It Have?
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (July 28, 2013) - Editor's Note: TV's Answer Man, aka Swanni, takes your questions regarding how to best use the latest products and services in TV technology. If you have a question about TV technology, ask TV's Answer Man by sending an e-mail to swann@tvpredictions.com

Q. I was thinking of getting Amazon Prime for the video streaming service, but how many titles does it have now? -- Bobby, New York.

Bobby, for starters, the Amazon Prime service costs $79 annually; there's no monthly fee available like Netflix. But Amazon Prime comes with free two-day shipping on many Amazon products, not just in the video category.

Amazon estimates that it now has more than 40,000
TV show episodes and movies available for instant streaming on the Prime service. That's not bad considering it just started roughly two years ago.

But it still trails Netflix, which is estimated to have at least twice as many titles. But Amazon is building fast and the company has reached some exclusive deals with companies like Viacom.

As far as video quality is concerned, Amazon Prime is on par with Netflix, in my opinion. But I would say that the picture on both services is slightly inferior to Vudu, the Walmart-owned PPV streamer.

But there's always a catch. Unlike Netflix, Vudu requires you to pay separately for each movie. For example, to watch a new movie in 1080p HD, it would cost you as much as $5.99.
