Will the NFL Sunday Ticket Be On PS3?
By Swanni

Q. I have a Sony Play Station 3 and I really enjoyed the NFL Sunday Ticket on the PS3 last year. Will it be on again this season? -- Dave, Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Dave, I have bad news for you. Both PS3 and DIRECTV have confirmed that the NFL Sunday Ticket will not be returning to the gaming console for a third season.

CNET.com writes that
DIRECTV spokesman Robert Mercer says his company instead will focus on enhancing the Ticket for new and existing customers. That sounds like having the pay package of games on the console was keeping people from signing up with DIRECTV. If you're a football fanatic, why sign up for DIRECTV when you could get your favorite pigskin package on your PS3?

The Ticket, which shows out-of-market regular season NFL games, was available on the PS3 since 2011. The app and Ticket subscription cost $300 per season.

For what it's worth, Kotaku, which covers the video gaming industry, speculates that the NFL is interested in partnering with Microsoft and therefore is no longer receptive to helping Sony's Play Station 3.

There may be something to that, but I believe this was a DIRECTV decision. At the outset of the partnership, the satcaster probably hoped that PS3/Ticket users would be more inclined to sign up for DIRECTV at some point. But that likely never happened, which triggered DIRECTV to take their ball and go home, so to speak. So, PS3 owners, if you want the Ticket, now you'll have to sign up for DIRECTV.
