Q. I keep hearing so many great things about the new OLED TVs. Where can I buy one? -- Steve, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Steve, OLED
, which stands for organic light-emitting diode, is used to manufacture everything from TVs to computer monitors to even small mobile devices. The OLED display works without a backlight which enables an OLED TV's panel to be ultra-thin. In fact, an early OLED TV from LG is just 0.15 inches thick.

The OLED TV also combines some of the best features of Plasma and LCD sets, displaying deep blacks and high contrast levels. The result is that the OLED TV's eye-popping picture and sleek style is a real dazzler.

Some Best Buy stores with Magnolia stores inside
are now selling the LG 55-inch OLED TV, which carries a suggested list price of $14,999, and the Samsung 55-inch OLED set, which is going for around $9,000. Not all stores are carrying it so you might want to call ahead.

In addition, you can find the two sets at and some high-end TV stores. also is now selling the Samsung model for $8,997. Click here for more information.

Why is the OLED set in such limited supply if it's such a hot item? The makers are purposely trying to keep production under control because of the difficulties they've had in manufacturing the thin panels. Until they perfect the production process, the OLED TV will remain expensive -- and in limited supply.
