The New iPhone: What Do We Know?
Washington, D.C. (September 3, 2013) - Editor's Note: TV's Answer Man, aka Swanni, takes your questions regarding how to best use the latest products and services in TV technology. If you have a question about TV technology, ask TV's Answer Man by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
Q. I took your advice and decided to wait before buying a new iPhone. So is a new one coming out? -- Harold, Chicago, Illinois.
Harold, you were referring to our Mr. Answer Man column on August 11 in which I wrote that it appeared likely that Apple would launch a new iPhone in September. Well, it's September and it looks like all the suspicions were right.
Apple today issued invitations for a press event on September 10 that it says "should brighten everyone's day." Business Week said the invitations were designed with bubbles and a source close to the situation reveals a new iPhone will be introduced.
The publication adds that Apple CEO Tim Cook will unveil a new operating system, iOS 7, which should include a new e-mail system, calendar, and photo features as well as a brighter color scheme (thereby the "brighten everyone's day" comment.)|
Reuters writes that the 'brighten everyone's day" remark also could be a reference to the new iPhone being available in colors besides the traditional black or white. The wire service adds that two iPhone editions will likely be launched, the 5S and the 5C.
Apple Insider chimes in that the iPhone 5S will come in champagne color while a lower-cost iPhone 5C will come in multiple colors.
Finally, the new iPhones could come with an improved camera and a fingerprint sensor, which could be used for purchase verification.
Pricing is still unclear, but most reports say it's unlikely that Apple will introduce a new iPad at the event. But stay tuned. You never know.
