Can I Connect the Online NFL Sunday Ticket To a TV?
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (September 5, 2013) - Editor's Note: TV's Answer Man, aka Swanni, takes your questions regarding how to best use the latest products and services in TV technology. If you have a question about TV technology, ask TV's Answer Man by sending an e-mail to swann@tvpredictions.com

Q. I was very excited about your article today on the Madden NFL anniversary edition that comes with the NFL Sunday Ticket's online package. I don't mind watching it online but is there a way to transfer it to my TV? -- Dave, Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Dave, for those not familiar with that article, DIRECTV, Amazon and Electronics Arts have teamed to include a season-long free trial of the online NFL Sunday Ticket package with the $100 Madden NFL 25th Anniversary Edition. For more information, click here.

Of course, you can also watch the Sunday Ticket online if you subscribe to the DIRECTV Sunday Ticket Max plan for $300.

Now, there are a few ways you can transmit the online broadcast onto your television screen. First, you can connect your computer or laptop to the TV. To do this, shut off your computer; then connect an HDMI cable to your HDMI port on your computer and then connect the other end to the HDMI port on your TV.

Next, set your TV's screen by using the Input or Video button on your remote to Monitor. That normally delivers the best picture for content delivered via a computer, such as a web site. (One note: if you are connecting a laptop, try hitting the F8 key if you have trouble getting an image on your TV screen.)

Finally, go to a web page on your desktop or laptop and it should show up on your television.

If your computer doesn't have a HDMI port, you can also use a S-Video connection, the VGA port or the DVI connection. For more information, consult your TV's manual.

There's another way to make this connection and it's called the Google Chromecast. (See: Google Chromecast for more information on how to install one.) The Chromecast costs $35 and is available at select Best Buy stores and some online sites.

Once you install the Chromecast, you open up a Google Chrome browser and go to the web page where the Sunday Ticket game of your choice is playing. The Chromecast software will then allow you to "cast" your computer screen's content onto the television screen.

I've done it with movies and web pages and it's a pretty cool experience; the picture is very good.

However, if your computer or wireless system is a tad slow, you might find the TV's video image to be a few seconds behind. So before buying the Chromecast, you might want to test your ISP's speed at a site such as
SpeedTest.Net.
