Is There a 20-Inch iPad?
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (September 9, 2013) - Editor's Note: TV's Answer Man, aka Swanni, takes your questions regarding how to best use the latest products and services in TV technology. If you have a question about TV technology, ask TV's Answer Man by sending an e-mail to swann@tvpredictions.com

Q. I heard that there is a 20-inch iPad, I think from Panasonic. That sounds awesome. What's the scoop? -- Jerry, Boston.

Jerry, what you heard is half right. Panasonic last week unveiled the new Toughpad, a 20-inch tablet that comes with a 4K display and it's likely to be available at retail in November. But it's not an iPad, Jerry, just a different tablet from Panasonic.

However, a 20-inch tablet does sound intriguing, doesn't it, although you might find it a bit difficult holding it up while sitting on a park bench reading the latest sports scores. It weighs more than five pounds.

In addition, the tablet is expected to cost somewhere around $6,000. Consequently, as you probably have guessed by now, the Toughpad will be targeted to a commercial rather than consumer audience. Think engineers, designers, marketing types who need a bigger board to work out their creative inspiration.

Panasonic says the Toughpad will come with an optional stylus of some sort that will allow you to tap away to your heart's content; three USB 3.0 ports and an optional smart card reader. There's also a 1,280 by 720 pixel front camera.

My guess is that some folks might try to use the Toughpad as a quasi laptop/tablet, but at $6,000, you could probably find something cheaper and just as useful, even with that 4K display.

For more information on the Panasonic Toughpad, here's the press release.
