Does Roku Have the YouTube Channel?
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (December 17, 2013) - Editor's Note: TV's Answer Man, aka Swanni, takes your questions regarding how to best use the latest products and services in TV technology. If you have a question about TV technology, ask TV's Answer Man by sending an e-mail to swann@tvpredictions.com

Q.  I think the Roku streaming box is the coolest thing out there. But why no YouTube? It has everything else. Netflix. Amazon. etc. etc. But why no YouTube!? -- Yardley, Baltimore.

Yardley, Roku, the Net TV streaming set-top, boasts of having more than 1,000 channels, many of them free. But the absence of YouTube, one of the Internet's most popular video services, has mystified Roku users and industry observers for some time.

But I have good news. Variety reports that Roku and YouTube have finally settled their differences and the video channel will be added to Roku's latest line of set-tops, such as the Roku 3.

The publication says YouTube was added today to the Roku 3 in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland. The Roku 3 app for YouTube supports HD streaming and even includes the 'send to TV' feature that allows you to watch YouTube videos on your TV screen from a mobile device.

Roku, which has seen its sales jump in the last few years, will likely experience another boost with the YouTube addition. The company has been without YouTube for three years after the companies could not reach an agreement for its carriage.
