Q. I've been
thinking of getting a 32-inch HDTV to use as a monitor for my
laptop and desktop. Can you connect a computer to a HDTV using
the HDMI cable? -- Teddy, Brooklyn, New York.
You sure can, Teddy, and here's how:
First, shut off your computer and TV. Second, connect the HDMI
cable to your HDMI port on your computer and then connect the
other end to the HDMI port on your TV.
Next, set your TV's screen by using the Input or Video button on
your remote to Monitor. That normally delivers the best picture
for content delivered via a computer, such as a web site. (One
note: if you are connecting a laptop, try hitting the F8 key if
you have trouble getting an image on your TV screen.)

Finally, go to a web page on your desktop or laptop and it
should show up on your television.
If your computer doesn't have a HDMI port, you can also use a
S-Video connection, the VGA port or the DVI connection. For more
information, consult your TV's manual.
