Q. My local cable
operator doesn't have many HD channels. I've thought about
satellite but I don't think I can get a dish installed where I
live. So I am intrigued with the idea of getting Verizon but I'm
not sure if it's even available where I live. How can I check
that? -- Lucy, Chesapeake, Virginia.
Verizon's TV service, called FiOS,
now has roughly five million subscribers in about 15 states, The telco had plans to expand to more states, but has put those
efforts on hold due to the sluggish economy and other issues.
The best way to determine if Verizon is available in your area
-- or any neighborhood in the U.S. -- is to go to
FiOS TV web site
and click the 'Check
Then, the on-screen prompt will ask you to type in your home
address. The site will then tell you which Verizon services (TV,
phone, Internet etc.) are
available at your specific address. That's an important
distinction because FiOS TV may be available in your general
area but not at your home; the company may not have installed
the necessary equipment to reach your home.
By the way, if you are interested in the other telco TV service,
AT&T's U-Verse, click
to see if it's available at your home.
