Gillian Anderson: New X-Files Movie Coming?

Q. The X-Files was my favorite show of all time. Is there any chance that the show will come back with the original characters? -- Barker, Miami, Florida.

Barker, The X-Files, which aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002, starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents who investigated paranormal activities. The show still enjoys a cult following and it has inspired many modern day programs such as Fringe.

But guess what, Barker? Gillian Anderson says it's possible the team will reunite for an X-Files movie. The Daily Mail reports that Gillian and David appeared at this week's Comic Con festival in San Diego, and while Gillian ruled out a return to the small screen, she said a movie "would be great."

Of course, The X-Files did one theatrical film during its TV run. Directed by Rob Borman, the movie was released in 1998. And then the team did another film in 2008, called The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

X-Files creator Chris Carter did little to dampen enthusiasm for an X-Files movie, saying the show has once again become relevant in the American culture.

"The suspicion and conspiracy theories are so much more rampant today," he told the Comic Con crowd. "You could do the show now/"

So is there a real chance that there will be an X-Files movie? Ideas get tossed around in Hollywood all the time, but on this one the truth is out there, right?
