Analyst: Apple TV Will Cost Twice
as Much
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (December 4,
2011) -- A Wall Street analyst is
predicting that the new Apple-branded TV will cost twice as much
as its competitors' sets. For instance, if Sony or Panasonic was
selling a certain 47-inch HDTV for $800, the comparable Apple
model would likely retail for $1,600.
Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray, said last week at
an industry conference that Apple in late 2012 will introduce
sets in a range of sizes and they will include the iPhone 4S
feature, the Siri voice-activated technology.
BizJournals.com reports that Munster said that Apple will enter
the TV business because it believes that Americans are reluctant
to connect separate devices to their sets; Apple sells a
Net-enabled set-top called Apple TV, but its sales have been
lackluster at best.
Munster said the standalone Apple TV set will come with a
remote, but it will also be capable of being controlled with an
iPhone or iPad. And like the iPhone and iPad, Apple TV viewers
will be able to download content and apps from Apple's iTunes
store.
