iPhone 4S Has 1080p HD
Video! But...
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (October 5,
2011) -- I have purchased three
Apple iPhones in my lifetime and my addiction to the little
marvels has brought out the Charlton Heston in me. To
paraphrase:
"I will give you my iPhone when you pry it from my cold, dead
fingers."
But I will not buy the new iPhone 4S -- even though it has 1080p
HD video recording capability. Even though it has an 8-megapixel
still camera. Even though it may be faster and perhaps look even
cooler than my current iPhone 4. Even though my five-month-old
daughter would look just fabulous in those 1080p videos and
8-megapixel still images.
But I will not buy the new version of the iPhone for one simple
reason -- and it's not because I've had enough with
having to buy a new, upgraded gadget every six to 12 months. No,
I won't buy it because it's not enough -- not enough to
compel me to buy.
For the past few years, Apple has remarkably outdone itself with
each new version of the iPhone, adding features that I only
dreamed were possible, such as handheld 720p HD video recording,
FaceTime video chatting and new apps that constantly spark my
imagination. There are few daily functions I perform that don't
include at least some consultation with my iPhone 4.

New Apple CEO Tim
Cook tries to sell the new iPhone 4S.
But I won't buy this new one because I have become spoiled; I
expect each new iPhone to offer something magically new. And
1080p video recording and an 8-megapixel still camera is hardly
magically or new. There are hundreds of cameras that offer
either or both features.
To make matters worse, the cheapest iPhone 4S (16 gigabytes)
will be $199 when it goes on sale. The iPhone 4 will be $99. In
my view, the difference between the two does not warrant $100.
So, this time at least, I will not be buying that new iPhone 4S
-- although my daughter might disagree. Good thing she can't
talk yet. Right, Lucy Lu?
