Washington, D.C. (December 30,
2011) -- AT&T's U-verse service
has added MSG HD and MSG+ HD to its High-Definition lineup in
Connecticut.
The telco was able to to add the New York-based sports channels
after a federal appeals court this month rejected Cablevision's
bid to deny them to both AT&T and Verizon. Cablevision, the
former owner of the channels, argued that they could decide
which TV providers could or could not have access to their
channels.
Cablevision, which
competes directly with AT&T and Verizon in the tri-state New
York area, spun off MSG as a separate company a year ago, but
Cablevision chief James Dolan still sits as the executive
chairman of Madison Square Garden Company which now runs MSG.
Verizon has already added MSG and MSG+, which carry the New York
Knicks and Rangers among other professional teams, in the New
York areas which it serves.
"After years of seeking access to this programming, we're
pleased to bring MSG HD and MSG+ HD to U-verse TV customers,"
said Dan York, president of content for AT&T. "We're delighted
that our U-verse TV customers now have access to these important
HD sports channels on reasonable terms. We will continue to work
diligently on behalf of our customers to continue enhancing
U-verse TV by adding the content they want at fair terms and
prices."
MSG HD is available throughout Connecticut on AT&T channel 1708 while MSG+
HD is available in parts of Connecticut on channel 1706, both
for HD customers with the U100 package and above.
