Avatar Coming to Blu-ray On April 22

Washington, D.C. (March 17, 2010) -- It's official. Avatar, the world's greatest revenue generating movie of all time, will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 22.

However, Fox has not revealed when the movie will be offered on 3-D Blu-ray high-def disc. 3-D TV makers were hoping that the blockbuster hit would be released early this year to pump up sales of the new televisions.

Avatar director James Cameron has said he hopes the 3-D release will be in November, but the studio quickly shot that down.

Additionally, the studio has not set a price yet for the Blu-ray edition, which will include a DVD of the film as a combo package.
