Microsoft's Ballmer: We'll Support Blu-ray
Company CEO says development work already under way.

Ballmer made his comments at the Mix '08 conference, according to GamesIndustry.biz.
The Financial Times reported last week that Microsoft and Sony were discussing ways to develop a Blu-ray player for Microsoft's XBox 360 game console. Microsoft refused to comment for the article, but Ballmer on Friday made it clear that Blu-ray was in his company's future.
"We've already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on," the executive said, according to GamesIndustry, biz.
Microsoft had supported HD DVD in the high-def format war against Blu-ray while Sony is the biggest backer of the latter. But Toshiba said late last month that it would pull the plug on HD DVD at the end of March.
"Toshiba has moved on. We've moved on, and we'll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense," Ballmer said at the gaming conference.
