Best Buy Reveals 42 Stores to Be Closed

-- Best Buy yesterday revealed the locations for 42 'big
box' stores it will close this year.
The CE retailer announced on March 29 that it would close 50
stories but has not disclosed until now the full list of stores
that would get the ax.
Best Buy is closing the stores due to sluggish sales and
shrinking profits. The company lost $1.7 billion in the last
quarter, compared to a profit of $651 million in the same
quarter a year ago. The store closures represent a little less
than three percent of its retail force. (Best Buy has 1,450
stores in the United States.)
Best Buy says it has already closed two stores, one in Kansas
City and one in Scottsdale, Arizona. Plus, one San Antonio
stores and five Twin Cities stores have been notified that they
will close later this year.
Yesterday, employees at the remaining 42 stores were told their
stores will be closing, most by May 12.
"This was not an
easy decision to make. We chose these stores carefully, and are
working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal
as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and
satisfying way. But we also recognize the impact this news has
on the people who deserve respect for the contributions they
have made to our business," Best Buy said in a statement.
