In making the announcement yesterday, Paramount said Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola personally supervised a year-long frame-by-frame digital restoration of the first two movies in the trilogy.
The movies will be remastered for the Blu-ray high-def disc.
Additionally, the four-disc Godfather release will included a remastered version of The Godfather Part III, the final chapter in the series.
The studio says the four-disc collection will include five high-def documentaries and four shorts on the making of the films. The documentaries will include segments on the restoration work and interviews with cast members including Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, James Caan and Robert Duvall.
The remastered movies will also be available on standard-def DVD.
