Report: Comcast & Big Ten Network Close to Deal
The cable operator would place channel in expanded basic tier in many markets.

Washington, D.C. (March 10, 2008) -- Comcast is likely to add the Big Ten Network before the start of the 2008 college football season.

That's according to an article by Sports Business Daily.

The Big Ten Network, which is available in both SD and HD, airs live college football and basketball games, among other sports.

Comcast has been reluctant to add the channel, saying the Big Ten Network was demanding that it be offered in a basic programming tier. The cable operator wanted to include it in a sports tier, which would require an extra fee.

However, Sports Business Daily reports that the two sides are close to an agreement that would place the Big Ten Network on the less expensive basic tier in most Big Ten markets.

DIRECTV and Dish Network already offer the high-def edition of the Big Ten Network.
