That's according to an article by Video Business.
The publication says the stores will offer approximately 40 Blu-ray and HD-DVD titles each. The two formats are competing for the new high-def DVD market.
Blockbuster will retain the same rental price for high-def DVDs.
“It’s a careful
selection process,” said Blockbuster spokesman Randy
Hargrove. "We’re looking at DVD adoption rate and
hardware penetration. We’ll continue to watch the market
and monitor to see where additional expansion will be
appropriate.”
Both the Sony-backed Blu-ray and the Toshiba-supported
HD-DVD have struggled to generate interest thus far due
to consumer concerns over cost and the format war.
Blockbuster Online, the
retailer's web site, has already added high-def DVDs to
its lineup, keeping pace with online rival NetFlix which
offered the new formats soon after their launch.
