Blu-ray Disc Sales Rising Fast
No Country For Old Men is leading the way.
By Swanni
That's according to an article by The Hollywood Reporter.
The publication reports that nearly 10 percent of all sales for No Country for Old Men were for Blu-ray discs during the film's first five days at retail.
The Blu-ray edition of Hitman, which was also released this month, received 12.6 percent of overall sales.
"That one (Hitman) hit the sweet spot," Fox's Steve Feldstein told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a great action title that looks beautiful in high-def -- and it's right in the cross hairs of Blu-ray's target demographic of young adult males."
The Hollywood Reporter writes that both HD DVD and Blu-ray rarely accounted for more than 2-3 percent of overall disc sales of a new release -- prior to news of HD DVD's exit.
But Tom Adams of Adams Media Research told the publication that consumers are now ready to embrace the high-def disc.
"Before, there was a tendency to play it safe and stick with the standard DVD," Adams said. "But now there's no longer anything to worry about."
