The addition will give Cablevision a lineup of 40 HD channels, more than any other TV provider.
But the cable operator added that it will have the "capacity" to offer up to 500 HD channels by year's end by using a new technology called Switch Digital Video.
The SDV system, which is expected to be deployed by other cable operators later this year, saves system space by only transmitting a channel when a viewer requests it.
Cablevision, however, did not reveal any additional HD channels it plans to add in the short or long term or whether it plans to actually offer a lineup anywhere close to 500 high-def channels.

Cable operators recently have acknowledged that they increase their marketing efforts to counter DIRECTV's vow to offer 100 high-def channels by year's end. DIRECTV actually has announced dozens of deals with high-def channels that will be added starting in September.
Voom, which features programming on niche subjects such as horror films, international sports and news, is owned by Rainbow Media, a unit of Cablevision. The programming block was created two years ago after Cablevision pulled the plug on Voom's satellite TV service due to poor subscription rates.
Until now, satcaster EchoStar was the only TV provider in the U.S. to carry the 15-channel Voom lineup. EchoStar has an equity stake in the Voom service.
Cablevision said the Voom channels would be included in its free HD package.
