Discovery Cancels The Fighters

By Allison Moore

Washington, D.C. (February 7, 2014) -- Discovery has cancelled the boxing reality show, The Fighters, after just one episode, reports FoxSports.com.

The Fighters focused on up and coming UFC fighters in the Boston area and one of the show's producers, UFC boxing coach Peter Welch, hoped it would revive boxing in the city. The first episode ran two weeks ago.

But Welch confirmed Wednesday on his Twitter page that Discovery has already pulled the plug on the show. He said the debut episode generated just 385,000 viewers, which is very low for Discovery. However, Welch blamed the network for not promoting the show.

"They didn't promote it at all," he said recently. "I promoted the s---- out of it, but it didn't do well, which sucks because it's a great series."

Welch said he hoped to find an "audience appropriate network" to pick up the series.

FoxSports writes that Treehouse Master has replaced The Fighters in the channel's programming guide.
