USA Network Cancels Unnecessary Roughness
By Allison Moore
Washington, D.C. (November 20, 2013) - USA Network has cancelled the sports drama, Unnecessary Roughness, after three seasons.
The show, which featured Callie Thorne as a therapist to professional athletes, received just 2.36 million viewers in its final episode last August, writes the Los Angeles Times. That was a below-par rating, but USA Network did not give a reason for the cancellation in a press statement.
Unnecessary Roughness may have also ruffled a few feathers in the sports world with its handling of some topical issues including gay athletes. But it's unlikely that was the cause of USA Network's decision.
"We are proud of this show and its writers, which had a unique ability to address topical subjects before they unfolded in real life and on the sports pages," the network, said, according to Deadline.com.
Thorne, who previously starred in Homicide, among other series, was well received in the show, landing a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.
