Washington, D.C. (September 12, 2008) -- The Washington Capitals have announced that Comcast SportsNet will broadcast 50 games this season in High-Definition.
The team, which features superstar left winger Alex Ovechkin, who scored 65 goals last season, says the 50 high-def broadcasts will be the most ever.
“It is fantastic to see Comcast SportsNet offer so many games in HD,” said Capitals majority owner Ted Leonsis. “Our TV ratings increased significantly last year, and we look forward to continued growth this season.”
The Capitals will have 73 of its 82 games broadcast by Comcast SportsNet this season, which begins October 10 at Atlanta. Comcast will air the team's home opener against Chicago in high-def on October 11.
The Caps, which won last year's NHL Southeast Division, also experienced a TV ratings record last season, according to the Washington Business Journal with ratings increasing 75 percent over the previous year.
In related news, Comcast SportsNet also said it would carry 49 of its 60 Washington Wizards broadcasts this season in high-def.
