CNET: DIRECTV's 3D Almost Made Us Sick
TVPredictions.com

Washington, D.C. (July 7, 2010) -- DIRECTV last week launched a new 3D channel called n3D, but reviewers at a top technology site say watching the channel almost made them launch their lunch.

CNET, a respected and popular site for tech buffs, yesterday posted a review of n3D which features a variety of programming in the 3D format.

"
Our first experience watching n3D, DIRECTV's new, exclusive all-3D TV channel, was a mixed bag. At times we felt we needed an airline sickness bag," the review stated.

There have been reports that 3D TV could make up to 20 percent of the population sick because of its disorienting experience. And the CNET reviewers noted that DIRECTV's 3D channel was at times very disorienting.

"The first sequence we watched was 'Guitar Sessions with Jane's Addiction,' an intimate acoustic concert. The 3D effect seemed forced to both of us, with too much depth in the image," the review said. "The worst issue came when the head of an audience member appeared in the extreme foreground, seeming to hover artificially in front of the frame of the picture."

CNET's reviewers had even more trouble with the 3D preview of a documentary on Africa.

"(We watched) a preview of a documentary about Africa called African Adventure: Safari in the Okavango," and as soon as it appeared (we) immediately expressed dismay and felt a powerful sense of nausea," the review says.
