Comcast: Just 14 HD Channels In N. Colorado
The cable operator moves to upgrade the local system.

Well, be happy you don't live in the small Northern Colorado town of Longmont. Residents there are only receiving 14 HDTV networks from their cable provider, Comcast.
According to the Longmont Times, Comcast is busily upgrading the local system to expand the high-def lineup to 29 channels this fall. That number would be closer to the average for a cable lineup, although many markets now have far more.
The small number of HD channels in the Longmont area is more evidence that high-def is still in its infancy in many parts of the U.S. Some cable operators, particularly small ones, have yet to invest in serious upgrades to expand capacity for HD programming.
The Longmont Times reports that cable viewers will likely lose service at some point this summer as Comcast makes the upgrades.
But the cable operator says the disruption should be limited to one day for each customer.
“It will be a very small pocket each day,” said a spokesman. “Our goal is to touch each person only once.”
The newspaper reports that the Longmont City Council decided in 2007 to only renew Comcast's cable franchise for two years, hoping to pressure the cable operator to improve service.
