The new channels will be: The Science Channel HD; ABC Family HD; and Disney HD. Comcast subscribers were notified this week of the upcoming channel additions.
With the additions, the cable operator still offers fewer than 40 high-def channels in the Philly area. Comcast said earlier this year that it would offer up to 50 and 60 HD channels in a typical system by year's end. The cable operator now offers around 20-30 high-def channels in most markets.
Comcast also is expanding its HD On Demand lineup, saying it will give customers more HD "choices" than what's available on any other TV service.
DIRECTV now carries roughly 95 HD national channels, but Comcast says it has more high-def 'choices' available.
