 News (Updated) Site: DIRECTV Will Add AMC HD By Swanni Washington, D.C. (Sept. 2, 2011) -- DBSTalk.com, the message board favored by DIRECTV employees, is reporting this morning that the satcaster will add AMC HD on September 9. While the report has not been confirmed, the web site has often been a place where DIRECTV employees and insiders drop a first word about an upcoming channel launch or other company development. Posters today at DBSTalk.com say DIRECTV is now testing AMC HD's signal, which is a telltale sign before a launch. Update: DIRECTV has now confirmed on its Twitter and Facebook pages that it will add AMC HD on September 9. Since DIRECTV stopped adding basic cable channels in high-def nearly two years ago, the satcaster has been flooded with demands for AMC HD as well as many others such as IFC, Turner Classic Movies and National Geographic Wild. DIRECTV has stated recently that it believes that it offers the HD channels that people watch the most. But AMC, which features Emmy award winning shows such as Mad Men and Breaking Bad, is a large omission. The satcaster may be reconsidering its basic cable HD policy in light of its recent second quarter financial report showing the satcaster had the smallest increase in net subscribers in its history. While DIRECTV has hit the brakes on adding basic cable in HD, many of its rivals have added AMC HD, BBC America HD, National Geographic Wild in recent months, possibly prompting some DIRECTV subscribers to switch providers. |
