DIRECTV Adds BBC HD - If You Like
to Fly
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (December 14,
2011) -- Memo to DIRECTV HD
viewers in the United States: If you want to see BBC programs in
high-def, you'll have to move to Latin America.
That's right. Although many DIRECTV customers have urged the
satcaster to add BBC America HD to its High-Definition lineup in
the U.S., the company has steadfastly refused. In fact, DIRECTV
has added only one basic cable channel in high-def (AMC HD)
during the last year.
But DIRECTV Latin America has just announced that it will expand
its high-def lineup with a number of documentaries and scripted
shows from the BBC, writes Rapid TV News. The high-def content
will be shown from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET Monday through Friday in
such countries as Peru, Columbia, Argentina, Chile and
Venezuela.
The BBC HD/DIRECTV launch will take place on December 19 and it
will include such BBC shows as Top Gear, Wallander, Survivors
and the Sherlock series.
The readers of TVPredictions.com this fall voted BBC America HD
as the high-def channel it would most like to see added to
DIRECTV. Unfortunately, though, it will take a plane ticket to
accomplish that.
