DIRECTV now claims to have more than 150 HD channels. However, despite claims that it has the capacity for 200 HD channels, it has not announced plans to add more high-def channels, other than HD VOD channels.

DIRECTV HD fans, waiting for AMC, BBC, G4 etc in HD? Don't hold your breath. The satcaster would rather use its extra capacity for HD VOD channels because they don't have to pay programmers to carry them. If DIRECTV adds more basic cable networks in high-def this year, it will be very few.
