DIRECTV & Cox Settle HD Lawsuit
The satcaster challenged Cox's contention it offered a better HD picture.
By Swanni
The lawsuit, which was filed in October, charged that Cox's Internet ads include "false and misleading statements" about the HD quality of its picture versus DIRECTV's high-def picture.
As part of the settlement, Cox has agreed to remove the claim that "HD looks better with cable" from its web site, according to Multichannel News.
“Cox had taken the offensive material down from its web site, and we were able to reach a settlement,” DIRECTV spokesman Robert Mercer told the publication.
A Cox spokesman said he could not comment on the settlement because the terms were confidential.
A similar false advertising lawsuit filed by DIRECTV against Comcast is still pending.
The satcaster was itself sued by Time Warner for making high-def claims, but the companies settled that suit in August.
