Reuters today reported that Dell is planning a complete company overhaul, which will include the elimination of Dell-branded LCD TVs beginning this month. The news service based the report on an article by the Taiwanese newspaper Economic Daily.
But Dell, the world's second leading PC maker, on Thursday afternoon said it's making "changes" to its TV business but will continue to make Dell-branded sets.
"We will soon offer a wider assortment of televisions from leading manufacturers that feature the latest technology and meet Dell's high standards for performance," said Dell spokeswoman Rachel Lyon, according to IDG News Service.
Dell, which sells LCD televisions in Japan and the United States, was one of several PC-centric companies to enter the TV business a few years ago.
However, the PC companies have experienced difficulty competing with established TV brands. Gateway, which began making branded TVs in 2002, left the TV business in 2005.
