Washington, D.C. (October 24,
2011) -- The battle is on. Fox
says DIRECTV is too cheap to pay a fair price to carry such
cable networks as the Fox Movie Channel, FX and nearly 20
regional sports channels.
DIRECTV says Fox is asking for a 40 percent increase over the
previous fee required to carry the channels; the satcaster says
that exceeds the fair market value and would require it to
charge its subscribers more in monthly bills.
The two companies acknowledge that unless a deal is agreed to by
November 1, it's highly likely that DIRECTV will be forced to
drop roughly 20-25 Fox cable networks. And that impasse could
lead to further problems on January 31 when DIRECTV's contract
with the Fox News Channel expires.
So, who's wrong? Fox or DIRECTV? Or, are both of these companies
wrong in their positions?
Here's your chance to vote. And believe me, your voice will be
heard. Both companies are closely watching how public opinion is
reacting to their every move.
