Washington, D.C. (June 16, 2008) -- DIRECTV tonight will begin its second season of the Championship Gaming Series in High-Definition.

The series, which pits video gamers in competition for $1 million in prizes, will air tonight at 10 p.m. ET on DIRECTV's channel 101.

The games will be broadcast live and in high-def every Monday and Wednesday night leading up to the North American finals on July 7 and the World Finals starting July 14.

"This has been a record year for the video game industry and interest in professional video gaming has never been higher, said Eric Shanks, executive vice president for DIRECTV Entertainment. With the addition of CGS to our sports line-up, weve solidified our placement as the gold standard in programming, providing the most and best sports in HD."

Tonight's competition will include a matchup between the San Francisco Optx and Dallas Venom. At 11:30 p.m. ET, the 2007 World Champion Chicago Chimera will play last year's runners-up, the Carolina Core.

The games will be held at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California. DIRECTV will employ more than 10 high-def cameras to capture the action which will feature four "official" CGS games: Dead or Alive 4, Forza Motorsport 2, CounterStrike: Source and Fifa 08.
