Washington, D.C.
(April 20, 2007) -- Don't be surprised to see DIRECTV's
High-Definition TV lineup on your in-room TV the next time you
check into a hotel.
The satcaster has launched a new service providing its High-Definition channels to hotel room sets across the country.
As of now, the HD channels are only available at a small number of hotels which have upgraded their rooms to include high-def sets.
For instance, Hilton Hotels announced this week that DIRECTV's nine national HDTV channels are available in the room at its luxury hotels in Chicago and San Francisco.
Hilton has installed 42-inch Plasma high-def sets in select rooms, called "Sight & Sound" rooms, at those two properties.

The Hilton "Sight & Sound" room offers a total of 40 DIRECTV channels (including the nine national HD channels) in addition to on-demand programming from ABC and digital surround sound systems.
Robert Mercer, a DIRECTV spokesman, says the satcaster "will aggressively market our HD services to hotels as we move toward the fall."
DIRECTV has announced that it will offer 100 national HDTV channels by year's end.
Mercer added that local high-def channels will also be available in hotel rooms in some markets.
The charge for the high-def service is up to the hotelier, Mercer said. Hilton is charging an extra $20 for their "Sight & Sound" room, which includes DIRECTV HD and the on-demand features.
