DIRECTV Closing Net TV Service For Hispanics
By Phillip Swann

Washington, D.C. (December 9, 2015) - DIRECTV has announced that on December 16 it will close a year-old Net TV service for Hispanics.

The Spanish-language service, called Yaveo, which means "Now I See" in English, cost $7.99 a month and launched in December 2014. Yaveo subscribers could stream TV shows and movies from Univision, Cine Sony Television, beIn Sports en Espanol, MTV, Canal 22 and other channels.

However, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson this week said his company is "aggressively" pursuing content deals for a broader streaming service targeted to consumers who do not have a pay TV subscription. Expected to be launched early next year, the new streaming service may include a Spanish-language programming tier, which would make Yaveo unnecessary.

Yaveo is still operating as of today, but the service's web site says it's no longer accepting new subscribers and will close on December 16.

"However, we will continue to offer high-quality Spanish-language entertainment through AT&T and DIRECTV," the site says.

The site explains that Yaveo is closing because AT&T and DIRECTV need to focus on integrating the two companies. AT&T took control of DIRECTV last summer after they merged.

"Once we complete the integration, we plan to evaluate new and unique opportunities to better serve the Hispanic community," the site adds.
