In related news, DIRECTV also revealed in the investors call
that only about 500,000 to 600,000 subscribers have Broadband
services connected to the satcaster's new DIRECTV On Demand
service, which allows users to download movies and TV shows in
SD and HD.
DIRECTV now has 18.4 million subscribers, which means only about
three percent are connected to the On Demand download service.
The nation's largest satellite service said it would also soon
introduce a new search engine that will improve search
capability, include photos on-screen as well as recommendations
for similar shows based on the user's preferences.
And DIRECTV said it's planning to launch a new movie service
next year that will enable subscribers to access "more than
thousands of movies" from either their PC or TV to view on their
televisions.
