The
newspaper reports that the agency has received more than 300
complaints about DIRECTV since 2006. One issue of concern:
consumers were led to believe they would pay as little as $34.99
a month for a programming package, but were billed for nearly
$66 a month.
The Florida lawsuit also says customers thought they were
signing a one-year contract based on DIRECTV's ads, but the
contracts were actually for two years. The agency also echoed
the state of Washington's charge that DIRECTV charges a penalty
if someone tries to unsubscribe before the contract expires.
There was no response from DIRECTV in the Miami Herald article.
