See Update: Dish Network: HD Is Back!
Dish Network HD Goes Dark!
By Swanni
Washington, D.C. (September 14,
2011) -- Dish Network yesterday
suddenly lost the signal to its High-Definition channels,
sending subscribers scrambling to their phones
and calling
customer assistance.
CNN reports that a Dish spokesman said the outage was caused by
a "satellite anomaly," which is tech speak for a satellite going
out. The company's 'satellite 129' was suspected to be the
satellite in disrepair.
It was unclear how many HD channels were blacked out, but
one TVPredictions.com reader reports that it was more than 10;
others on Internet message boards said it was many more than
that.
However, Dish customers at the satellite forums DBSTalk.com and
SatelliteGuys.Us were reporting this morning that the HD
channels were back on the air, except for local HD channels in
some areas.
As of this writing, Dish's Twitter pages had not been updated
with a confirmation that the HD channels had been returned.
Dish's Twitter page this morning was advising customers to
re-set their receivers so they could watch the
standard-definition version of their favorite HD channels. The
Twitter page had not been updated for four hours, as of 5:16
a.m. ET.
