Washington, D.C. (October 9, 2008) -- Dish Network has added local High-Definition channels in five new markets, the company announced today.
The new markets are: Florence/Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Fort Myers/Naples, Fla.; Greenville/New Bern/Washington, N.C.; Madison, Wis.; and Wilkes Barre/Scranton, Pa.
With the additions, the satcaster now offers local HD channels in 70 markets, reaching 71 percent of U.S. TV households.
Dish did not reveal which local channels were added in the new markets. Satellite and cable TV services sometimes do not offer all major broadcast networks in local high-def due to carriage disputes with the local affiliates.
The satcaster plans to offer local HD channels in 100 markets by year's end.
